European Football - What, No Beer?

Everyone knows of the love affair between football fans and beer and nowhere is this more so that Germany. 

With this in mind Germany's national railway operator wasn't about to risk sending a train full of football fans to a German Cup match without adequate beer on board.

However disaster almost struck when the beer tap failed just half an hour into the journey, aboard a train to Hamburg carring Bayer Leverkusen fans.

Naturally the emergency services were called in and officials halted the train in Wuppertal for 25 minutes and had a replacement part delivered by taxi. A police statement read that the measures were taken "In order not to endanger the good mood". 

Unfortunately for the fans Leverkusen's team was less obliging as their top-division team suffered an embarrassing defeat 1-0 at the hands of second-division St. Pauli and were eliminated from the cup. 

Fortunately the tap held out for the return journey, allowing the fans to drown their sorrows on the long journey home!
